In the face of natural disasters, communities often come together to support one another and rebuild. The floods of 2022 brought devastation to many regions, affecting homes, livelihoods, and most importantly, the education of countless students. As a response to this catastrophe, scholarship funding emerged as a powerful tool to empower the affected students, allowing them to continue their education despite the challenges they faced.
The Impact of the 2022 Floods on Education
The floods of 2022 left a lasting impact on various aspects of life, with education being one of the most affected. Schools were damaged, educational materials were lost, and families struggled to meet basic needs, let alone afford schooling expenses. Many students faced interrupted learning, displacement, and emotional distress due to the disaster. In such trying times, scholarship funding emerged as a ray of hope, offering a lifeline to students determined to overcome adversity. In 2004, USAID funded the Merit and Needs-based Scholarship Program to provide scholarships to students from financially disadvantaged households. Scholarship funding will be provided to flood-affected students at thirty partner universities for two semesters.
Eligibility to apply for this scholarship
- A student must get enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, semester in the fall program of 2023 in the four – five-year undergraduate program.
- Every type of subject and program is open.
- The student must belong to the flood-affected area, district, sub-district, or Tehsil.
- Fake proofs will be rejected like fake pictures of flood-affected areas, real proof will be needed like damaged households, and livelihoods.
- Candidates who will be shortlisted will be interviewed first by the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee of the University for consideration of financial assistance.
- 50% of seats are for Females
Coverage Scholarship is giving
This scholarship is covering tuition fees for two semesters which are fall 2023 and Spring 2024. In addition to tuition fees, a stipend will cover boarding, lodging, transportation, and other academic costs.
How to Apply?
Students can apply by following the HEC online system https://usaidmnbsp-fas.hec.gov.pk/ Students can submit their printout application form in the university office, uncomplete forms or files will not be accepted.
Things to Note:
- This Scholarship award will be made strictly on merit.
- HEC has the right to cancel this award if they find any doubts about the applicant.
- Admissions secured through self-support or self-financing, evening programs with higher fees, and two-year bachelor, associate, or lateral degree programs are not eligible.
- Students who have another scholarship or grant are ineligible.
- This scholarship will fund only two semesters.
- The last date to apply online for this Scholarship is the 16th of August 2023.
