Punjab Government Going Launch New Infrastructure?
The Punjab government is taking a new step in the infrastructure for the betterment of Punjab and its people. After introducing the new blue roads in the capital city of Punjab they are taking a new step to introduce new types of roads.
Which type of Roads Government is introducing?
The government is introducing new plastic roads. It’s a great step toward a new plastic-free environment. Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab’s caretaker chief minister, has expressed interest in plastic roads due to their remarkable resilience compared to bitumen roads.CM Naqvi said that he is going to complete this project within three months without any mistakes. The quality of Roads will be of a high standard. The chief minister also said that all the projects of road construction in Punjab are awarded by electronic procurement method. He also stated that approximately 137 road rehabilitation projects spanning approximately 2600 kilometers are about to be done.
Crisis of Plastic Waste
As we all know plastic is harmful not only to us but to the entire environment. Every country is working to make the environment plastic-free. Plastic waste has become a global environmental menace, posing a severe threat to ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Punjab like many other regions has been dealing with the challenge of managing the ever-increasing of plastic waste which is increasing because of the growing population. The conventional methods of plastic waste management, such as landfilling and incineration, have proven to be insufficient and environmentally harmful. The introduction of plastic roads offers a unique and innovative solution to tackle this crisis head-on.
The Concept of Plastic Roads
The concept of plastic roads involves incorporating shredded plastic waste into the bitumen mix used for road construction. The plastic waste is not used as it is but it was first cleaned and then shredded into small pieces then blended with hot bitumen. Then after melting it is used on the surface of the road. Before it was used in making roads plastic was used to go through multiple processes. It not only helps in recycling plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or oceans but also provides numerous benefits in terms of road quality and performance.
Advantages of Plastic Roads
There are many advantages of making plastic roads in the future.
Enhance Timing
If we use plastic roads they will stay for a long time and we won’t have to rebuild them after some time. They are more durable and won’t tear after some time. It will improve the binding properties when mixed with built bitumen, making the road more flexible and increasing the life span of the Road.
Reduce The Maintenance Cost
It is also beneficial in the matter of financially because it will increase the life span and in that way, the cost will reduce automatically. Adding plastic to the making of the roads will then it will help to reduce the repairing of the road and because of that it will reduce the cost.
Environmental Benefits
Using plastic waste in making roads is also beneficial for the environment because it helps us to clear the waste from the land and from the sea as well. It will help us to make the environment a happy and plastic-free environment for humans and for animals as well.
Challenges
No doubt it has many benefits but it also comes with a lot of challenges like the potential release of microplastic after the degradation of the road into the environment. However, extensive research and testing can be conducted to optimize the plastic content in the bitumen mix and ensure minimal environmental impact. Moreover, public awareness campaigns must be initiated to promote responsible waste disposal practices. Citizens should be encouraged to segregate and recycle plastic waste properly to ensure a steady supply of clean and usable plastic material for road construction.
Conclusion
The Punjab Government’s plans to introduce plastic roads exemplify a proactive approach toward sustainable infrastructure development. By tackling the plastic waste crisis while improving the quality and longevity of roads, the state is taking a giant leap towards a cleaner and greener future. This initiative not only sets an inspiring precedent for other regions to follow but also reinforces the importance of innovative and environmentally-conscious solutions to address the pressing challenges of our time. As the project unfolds, we can look forward to a Punjab adorned with roads that signify progress, sustainability, and responsible environmental stewardship.
