Karakoram Highway Shutdown: What is the new travel advisory?
The Karakoram Highway, often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” is a marvel of engineering that stretches through the stunning landscapes of Pakistan and China. Offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges, it has become a popular destination for travelers and adventurers alike. However, to ensure the safety and well-being of all road users, authorities have announced the closure of the Karakoram Highway on July 28 and 29. This temporary closure is crucial for essential maintenance work and other vital operations. Let’s delve into the reasons behind this decision and its potential impact on travelers.
Reason of closure
As we all know it’s already the start of the first Islamic month Muharram. And the Shia community will do their processions. People gather in large groups and do their processions, and because of that the local government decided to avoid traffic to close the roads including the Karakoram highway temporarily. As part of security arrangements for Muharram processions, Deputy Commissioner of Diamer, Captain (Retd.) Arif Ahmed has announced that the highway will be temporarily closed. As part of this significant religious observance, this precaution is essential to ensure the safety and security of both participants and travelers.
This step was necessary for travelers and for their safety not only for travelers but also for local people and for the people taking part in the processions. All travelers and tourists must plan their trip by skipping these dates. And if someone had already planned their trip then they must be in contact with the official travel authorities. The travel authorities should provide them with an alternative route. Tourists and travelers should keep themselves updated with the official travel authorities to avoid any kind of trouble
